Tested Stone אֶ֣בֶן בֹּ֜חַן (⁾even bōchan) 

Costly Cornerstone פִּנַּ֤ת יִקְרַת֙(pinnat yiqrat)

“Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, 

‘Behold, I am laying in Zion 

a stone, 

a tested stone, 

a costly cornerstone for the foundation, 

firmly placed. 

He who believes in it will not be disturbed’” 

(Isa. 28:16).

לָכֵ֗ן כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה הִנְנִ֛י יִסַּ֥ד בְּצִיּ֖וֹן אָ֑בֶן אֶ֣בֶן בֹּ֜חַן פִּנַּ֤ת יִקְרַת֙ מוּסָ֣ד מוּסָּ֔ד הַֽמַּאֲמִ֖ין לֹ֥א יָחִֽישׁ׃

“The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief corner stone” (Psa. 118:22).

“Jesus  said to them, ‘Did you never read in the Scriptures, “THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED, THIS BECAME THE CHIEF CORNER stone; THIS CAME ABOUT FROM THE LORD, AND IT IS MARVELOUS IN OUR EYES”?’” (Matt. 21:42).

“Have you not even read this Scripture: ‘THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED, THIS BECAME THE CHIEF CORNER stone” (Mark 12:10).

“But Jesus looked at them and said, ‘What then is this that is written: “THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED, THIS BECAME THE CHIEF CORNER stone”?’” (Luke 20:17).

“He is the STONE WHICH WAS REJECTED by you, THE BUILDERS, but WHICH BECAME THE CHIEF CORNER stone” (Acts 4:11).

“For this is contained in Scripture: ‘BEHOLD, I LAY IN ZION A CHOICE STONE, A PRECIOUS CORNER stone, AND HE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED’ This precious value, then, is for you who believe; but for those who disbelieve, 

‘THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED, THIS BECAME THE VERY CORNER stone,’ and, ‘A STONE OF STUMBLING AND A ROCK OF OFFENSE’; for they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, and to this doom they were also appointed. But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; for you once were NOT A PEOPLE, but now you are THE PEOPLE OF GOD; you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY. ” (1Pet. 2:6-10).

 אֶ֭בֶן מָאֲס֣וּ הַבּוֹנִ֑ים הָ֝יְתָ֗ה לְרֹ֣אשׁ פִּנָּֽה׃ Psa. 118:22 (BHS) 

MHNT) Matt. 21:42)‏ אָמַר לָהֶם יֵשׁוּעַ: ”הַאִם לֹא קְרָאתֶם בַּכְּתוּבִים, ’אֶבֶן מָאֲסוּ הַבּוֹנִים הָיְתָה לְרֹאשׁ פִּנָּה; מֵאֵת יְהוָה הָיְתָה זֹּאת, הִיא נִפְלָאת בְּעֵינֵינוּ‘? 

‎Mark 12:10‏ הַאִם לֹא קְרָאתֶם אֶת הַכָּתוּב הַזֶּה,’אֶבֶן מָאֲסוּ הַבּוֹנִים הָיְתָה לְרֹאשׁ פִּנָּה; 

‎Luke 20:17‏ הוּא נָעַץ בָּהֶם מַבָּטוֹ וְאָמַר: ”וּמַהוּ הַכָּתוּב הַזֶּה, ’אֶבֶן מָאֲסוּ הַבּוֹנִים הָיְתָה לְרֹאשׁ פִּנָּה‘? 

‎Acts 4:11‏ הוּא הָאֶבֶן שֶׁמְּאַסְתֶּם, אַתֶּם הַבּוֹנִים, אֲשֶׁר הָיְתָה לְרֹאשׁ פִּנָּה.

‎Rom. 9:33‏ כַּכָּתוּב: ”הִנְנִי יִסַּד בְּצִיּוֹן אֶבֶן נֶגֶף וְצוּר מִכְשׁוֹל, וְהַמַּאֲמִין בּוֹ לֹא יֵבוֹשׁ.“ 

‎Rom. 10:11‏ וְהַכָּתוּב אוֹמֵר: ”כָּל הַמַּאֲמִין בּוֹ לֹא יֵבוֹשׁ.“ 

‎Eph. 2:20‏ בְּנוּיִים עַל יְסוֹד הַשְּׁלִיחִים וְהַנְּבִיאִים, וְהַמָּשִׁיחַ יֵשׁוּעַ עַצְמוֹ הוּא אֶבֶן הַפִּנָּה.  ‎21‏ בּוֹ כָּל הַבִּנְיָן מְחֻבָּר יַחַד וְגָדֵל לִהְיוֹת הֵיכַל קֹדֶשׁ לַיהוה;  ‎22‏ וּבוֹ גַּם אַתֶּם נִבְנִים יַחְדָּיו לִהְיוֹת מִשְׁכַּן אֱלֹהִים עַל־יְדֵי הָרוּחַ.

 10-‎1Pet. 2:6‏ מִשּׁוּם כָּךְ אוֹמֵר הַכָּתוּב: ”הִנְנִי יִסַּד בְּצִיּוֹן אֶבֶן פִּנָּה נִבְחָרָה וִיקָרָה, וְהַמַּאֲמִין בָּהּ לֹא יֵבוֹשׁ.“ ‏ מִשּׁוּם כָּךְ אוֹמֵר הַכָּתוּב: ”הִנְנִי יִסַּד בְּצִיּוֹן אֶבֶן פִּנָּה נִבְחָרָה וִיקָרָה, וְהַמַּאֲמִין בָּהּ לֹא יֵבוֹשׁ.“ ‏ עַל כֵּן לָכֶם הַמַּאֲמִינִים הִיא אֶבֶן הַיְּקָר, אֲבָל לַסּוֹרְרִים — ”אֶבֶן מָאֲסוּ הַבּוֹנִים הָיְתָה לְרֹאשׁ פִּנָּה“,  ‎‏ וְגַם ”אֶבֶן נֶגֶף וְצוּר מִכְשׁוֹל.“ וְאָמְנָם הֵם נִכְשָׁלִים בַּדָּבָר בִּגְלַל סַרְבָנוּתָם, וּלְכָךְ גַּם נוֹעֲדוּ. 

‎‏ אֲבָל אַתֶּם עַם נִבְחָר, מַמְלֶכֶת כֹּהֲנִים וְגוֹי קָדוֹשׁ, עַם סְגֻלָּה, לְמַעַן תְּסַפְּרוּ תְּהִלּוֹתָיו שֶׁל הַקּוֹרֵא אֶתְכֶם מֵחֹשֶׁךְ אֶל אוֹרוֹ הַנִּפְלָא;  ‎‏ אַתֶּם אֲשֶׁר לְפָנִים לֹא עַם הֱיִיתֶם, אַךְ כָּעֵת עַם אֱלֹהִים אַתֶּם; אֲשֶׁר לְפָנִים לֹא רֻחֲמוּ, אַךְ כָּעֵת מְרֻחָמִים.
