Luke 20

Luke 20:1   On one of the days while He was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes with the elders confronted Him, 2 and they spoke, saying to Him, “Tell us by what authority You are doing these things, or who is the one who gave You this authority?”  3 Jesus answered and said to them, “I will also ask you a question, and you tell Me: 4 “Was the baptism of John from heaven or from men?” 5 They reasoned among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say, ‘Why did you not believe him?’  6 “But if we say, ‘From men,’ all the people will stone us to death, for they are convinced that John was a prophet.”  7 So they answered that they did not know where it came from.  8 And Jesus said to them, “Nor will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”
Luke 20:9   And He began to tell the people this parable: “A man planted a vineyard and rented it out to vine-growers, and went on a journey for a long time. 10 “At the harvest time he sent a slave to the vine-growers, so that they would give him some of the produce of the vineyard; but the vine-growers beat him and sent him away empty-handed. 11 “And he proceeded to send another slave; and they beat him also and treated him shamefully and sent him away empty-handed. 12 “And he proceeded to send a third; and this one also they wounded and cast out. 13 “The owner of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will respect him.’ 14 “But when the vine-growers saw him, they reasoned with one another, saying, ‘This is the heir; let us kill him so that the inheritance will be ours.’ 15 “So they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. What, then, will the owner of the vineyard do to them? 16 “He will come and destroy these vine-growers and will give the vineyard to others.” When they heard it, they said, “May it never be!”
17  But Jesus looked at them and said, “What then is this that is written:
‘THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED,
THIS BECAME THE CHIEF CORNER stone’?
18 “Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will scatter him like dust.”
Luke 20:19   The scribes and the chief priests tried to lay hands on Him that very hour, and they feared the people; for they understood that He spoke this parable against them.  20 So they watched Him, and sent spies who pretended to be righteous, in order that they might catch Him in some statement, so that they could deliver Him to the rule and the authority of the governor.  21 They questioned Him, saying, “Teacher, we know that You speak and teach correctly, and You are not partial to any, but teach the way of God in truth.  22 “Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”  23 But He detected their trickery and said to them,  24 “Show Me a denarius. Whose likeness and inscription does it have?” They said, “Caesar’s.”  25 And He said to them, “Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” 26 And they were unable to catch Him in a saying in the presence of the people; and being amazed at His answer, they became silent.
Luke 20:27   Now there came to Him some of the Sadducees (who say that there is no resurrection),  28 and they questioned Him, saying, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us that IF A MAN’S BROTHER DIES, having a wife, AND HE IS CHILDLESS, HIS BROTHER SHOULD MARRY THE WIFE AND RAISE UP CHILDREN TO HIS BROTHER.  29 “Now there were seven brothers; and the first took a wife and died childless;  30 and the second 31 and the third married her; and in the same way all seven died, leaving no children.  32 “Finally the woman died also.  33 “In the resurrection therefore, which one’s wife will she be? For all seven had married her.”
Luke 20:34   Jesus said to them, “The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage, 35 but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage; 36 for they cannot even die anymore, because they are like angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection. 37 “But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in the passage about the burning bush, where he calls the Lord THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, AND THE GOD OF ISAAC, AND THE GOD OF JACOB. 38 “Now He is not the God of the dead but of the living; for all live to Him.” 39 Some of the scribes answered and said, “Teacher, You have spoken well.”  40 For they did not have courage to question Him any longer about anything.
Luke 20:41   Then He said to them, “How is it that they say the Christ is David’s son? 42 “For David himself says in the book of Psalms,
‘THE LORD SAID TO MY LORD,
“SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND,
43 UNTIL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES A FOOTSTOOL FOR YOUR FEET.”’
Luke 20:44   “Therefore David calls Him ‘Lord,’ and how is He his son?”

Luke 20:45   And while all the people were listening, He said to the disciples,  46 “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and love respectful greetings in the market places, and chief seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets, 47 who devour widows’ houses, and for appearance’s sake offer long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation.”

Psalm 110:1

Psa. 110:1     The LORD says to my Lord:
“Sit at My right hand

Until I make  Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”

Psalm 61

Psa. 61:0   For the choir director; on a stringed instrument. A Psalm of David.
Psa. 61:1     Hear my cry, O God;
Give heed to my prayer.
2  From the  end of the earth I call to You when my heart is  faint;
Lead me to  the rock that is higher than I.
3  For You have been a  refuge for me,
tower of strength  against the enemy.
4  Let me   dwell in Your tent forever;
Let me  take refuge in the shelter of Your wings. Selah.
Psa. 61:5    For You have heard my  vows, O God;
You have given me the inheritance of those who  fear Your name.
6  You will   prolong the king’s  life;
His years will be as many generations.
7  He will  abide  before God forever;
Appoint  lovingkindness and truth that they may preserve him.
8  So I will  sing praise to Your name forever,

That I may  pay my vows day by day.

Psalm 89

Psa. 89:0   A  Maskil of  Ethan  the Ezrahite.
Psa. 89:1    I will  sing of the lovingkindness of the LORD forever;
To all generations I will  make known Your  faithfulness with my mouth.
2  For I have said, “ Lovingkindness will be built up forever;
In the heavens You will establish Your  faithfulness.”
3  “I have made a covenant with  My chosen;
I have  sworn to David My servant,
4  I will establish your  seed forever
And build up your  throne to all generations.” Selah.
Psa. 89:5    The  heavens will praise Your wonders, O LORD;
Your faithfulness also  in the assembly of the  holy ones.
6  For  who in the skies is comparable to the LORD?
Who among the   sons of the mighty is like the LORD,
7  A God  greatly feared in the council of the  holy ones,
And  awesome above all those who are around Him?
8  O LORD God of hosts,  who is like You, O mighty  LORD?
Your faithfulness also surrounds You.
9  You rule the swelling of the sea;
When its waves rise, You  still them.
10  You Yourself crushed   Rahab like one who is slain;
You  scattered Your enemies with  Your mighty arm.
Psa. 89:11    The  heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours;
The  world and  all it contains, You have founded them.
12  The  north and the south, You have created them;
Tabor and  Hermon  shout for joy at Your name.
13  You have  a strong arm;
Your hand is mighty, Your  right hand is exalted.
14   Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne;
Lovingkindness and  truth go before You.
15  How blessed are the people who know the   joyful sound!
O LORD, they walk in the  light of Your countenance.
16  In  Your name they rejoice all the day,
And by Your righteousness they are exalted.
17  For You are the glory of  their strength,
And by Your favor  our  horn is exalted.
18  For our  shield belongs to the LORD,
And our king to the  Holy One of Israel.
Psa. 89:19     Once You spoke in vision to Your godly  ones,
And said, “I have  given help to one who is  mighty;
I have exalted one  chosen from the people.
20  “I have  found David My servant;
With My holy  oil I have anointed him,
21  With whom  My hand will be established;
My arm also will  strengthen him.
22  “The enemy will not  deceive him,
Nor the   son of wickedness afflict him.
23  “But I shall  crush his adversaries before him,
And strike those who hate him.
24  “My  faithfulness and My lovingkindness will be with him,
And in My name his  horn will be exalted.
25  “I shall also set his hand  on the sea
And his right hand on the rivers.
26  “He will cry to Me, ‘You are  my Father,
My God, and the  rock of my salvation.’
27  “I also shall make him My  firstborn,
The  highest of the kings of the earth.
28  “My  lovingkindness I will keep for him forever,
And My  covenant shall be confirmed to him.
29  “So I will establish his   descendants forever
And his  throne  as the days of heaven.
Psa. 89:30    “If his sons  forsake My law
And do not walk in My judgments,
31  If they  violate My statutes
And do not keep My commandments,
32  Then I will punish their transgression with the  rod
And their iniquity with stripes.
33  “But I will not break off  My lovingkindness from him,
Nor deal falsely in My faithfulness.
34  “My  covenant I will not  violate,
Nor will I  alter  the utterance of My lips.
35  Once I have  sworn by My holiness;
I will not lie to David.
36  “His   descendants shall endure forever
And his  throne  as the sun before Me.
37  “It shall be established forever  like the moon,
And the  witness in the sky is faithful.” Selah.
Psa. 89:38    But You have  cast off and  rejected,
You have been full of wrath  against Your  anointed.
39  You have  spurned the covenant of Your servant;
You have  profaned  his crown  in the dust.
40  You have  broken down all his walls;
You have  brought his strongholds to ruin.
41   All who pass along the way plunder him;
He has become a  reproach to his neighbors.
42  You have  exalted the right hand of his adversaries;
You have  made all his enemies rejoice.
43  You also turn back the edge of his sword
And have  not made him stand in battle.
44  You have made his   splendor to cease
And cast his throne to the ground.
45  You have  shortened the days of his youth;
You have  covered him with shame.  Selah.
Psa. 89:46     How long, O LORD?
Will You hide Yourself forever?
Will Your  wrath burn like fire?
47   Remember  what my span of life is;
For what  vanity  You have created all the sons of men!
48  What man can live and not  see death?
Can he  deliver his soul from the  power of  Sheol?  Selah.
Psa. 89:49    Where are Your former lovingkindnesses, O Lord,
Which You  swore to David in Your faithfulness?
50  Remember, O Lord, the  reproach of Your servants;
How I bear in my bosom the reproach of all the many peoples,
51  With which  Your enemies have reproached, O LORD,
With which they have reproached the footsteps of  Your anointed.
Psa. 89:52     Blessed be the LORD forever!

Amen and Amen.

Psalm 62

Psa. 62:0   For the choir director; according to Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.
Psa. 62:1    My soul waits in silence for God only;
From Him is my salvation.
2  He only is my rock and my salvation,
My stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken.
Psa. 62:3    How long will you assail a man,
That you may murder him, all of you,
Like a leaning wall, like a tottering fence?
4  They have counseled only to thrust him down from his high position;
They delight in falsehood;
They bless with their mouth,
But inwardly they curse. Selah.
Psa. 62:5    My soul, wait in silence for God only,
For my hope is from Him.
6  He only is my rock and my salvation,
My stronghold; I shall not be shaken.
7  On God my salvation and my glory rest;
The rock of my strength, my refuge is in God.
8  Trust in Him at all times, O people;
Pour out your heart before Him;
God is a refuge for us.  Selah.
Psa. 62:9    Men of low degree are only vanity and men of rank are a lie;
In the balances they go up;
They are together lighter than breath.
10  Do not trust in oppression
And do not vainly hope in robbery;
If riches increase, do not set your heart upon them.
Psa. 62:11    Once God has spoken;
Twice I have heard this:
That power belongs to God;
12  And lovingkindness is Yours, O Lord,

For You recompense a man according to his work.

Psalm 15

Psa. 15:0   A Psalm of David.
Psa. 15:1    O LORD, who may  abide  in Your tent?
Who may dwell on Your  holy hill?
2  He who  walks with integrity, and works righteousness,
And  speaks truth in his heart.
3  He  does not slander  with his tongue,
Nor  does evil to his neighbor,
Nor  takes up a reproach against his friend;
4  In  whose eyes a reprobate is despised,
But  who  honors those who fear the LORD;
He  swears to his own hurt and does not change;
5  He  does not put out his money  at interest,
Nor  does he take a bribe against the innocent.

He who does these things will never be shaken.

Psalm 31:3

Psa. 31:0   For the choir director. A Psalm of David.
Psa. 31:1    In You, O LORD, I have taken refuge;
Let me never be ashamed;
In Your righteousness deliver me.
2  Incline Your ear to me, rescue me quickly;
Be to me a rock of strength,
A stronghold to save me.
3  For You are my rock and my fortress;
For Your name’s sake You will lead me and guide me.
4  You will pull me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me,
For You are my strength.
5  Into Your hand I commit my spirit;
You have ransomed me, O LORD, God of truth.
Psa. 31:6    I hate those who regard vain idols,
But I trust in the LORD.
7  I will rejoice and be glad in Your lovingkindness,
Because You have seen my affliction;
You have known the troubles of my soul,
8  And You have not given me over into the hand of the enemy;
You have set my feet in a large place.
Psa. 31:9    Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am in distress;
My eye is wasted away from grief, my soul and my body also.
10  For my life is spent with sorrow
And my years with sighing;
My strength has failed because of my iniquity,
And my body has wasted away.
11  Because of all my adversaries, I have become a reproach,
Especially to my neighbors,
And an object of dread to my acquaintances;
Those who see me in the street flee from me.
12  I am forgotten as a dead man, out of mind;
I am like a broken vessel.
13  For I have heard the slander of many,
Terror is on every side;
While they took counsel together against me,
They schemed to take away my life.
Psa. 31:14    But as for me, I trust in You, O LORD,
I say, “You are my God.”
15  My times are in Your hand;
Deliver me from the hand of my enemies and from those who persecute me.
16  Make Your face to shine upon Your servant;
Save me in Your lovingkindness.
17  Let me not be put to shame, O LORD, for I call upon You;
Let the wicked be put to shame, let them be silent in Sheol.
18  Let the lying lips be mute,
Which speak arrogantly against the righteous
With pride and contempt.
Psa. 31:19    How great is Your goodness,
Which You have stored up for those who fear You,
Which You have wrought for those who take refuge in You,
Before the sons of men!
20  You hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the conspiracies of man;
You keep them secretly in a shelter from the strife of tongues.
21  Blessed be the LORD,
For He has made marvelous His lovingkindness to me in a besieged city.
22  As for me, I said in my alarm,
“I am cut off from before Your eyes”;
Nevertheless You heard the voice of my supplications
When I cried to You.
Psa. 31:23    O love the LORD, all you His godly ones!
The LORD preserves the faithful
And fully recompenses the proud doer.
24  Be strong and let your heart take courage,
All you who hope in the LORD.

Psalm 21:13

Psa. 21:0   For the choir director. A Psalm of David.
Psa. 21:1    O LORD, in Your strength the king will  be glad,
And in Your  salvation how greatly he will rejoice!
2  You have  given him his heart’s desire,
And You have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah.
3  For You  meet him with the blessings of good things;
You set a  crown of fine gold on his head.
4  He asked life of You,
You  gave it to him,
Length of days forever and ever.
5  His  glory is great through Your  salvation,
Splendor and majesty You place upon him.
6  For You make him  most  blessed forever;
You make him joyful  with gladness in Your presence.
Psa. 21:7    For the king  trusts in the LORD,
And through the lovingkindness of the Most High  he will not be shaken.
8  Your hand will  find out all your enemies;
Your right hand will find out those who hate you.
9  You will make them  as a fiery oven in the time  of your anger;
The LORD will  swallow them up in His wrath,
And  fire will devour them.
10  Their  offspring You will destroy from the earth,
And their   descendants from among the sons of men.
11  Though they   intended evil against You
And  devised a plot,
They will not succeed.
12  For You will  make them turn their back;
You will  aim  with Your bowstrings at their faces.
13  Be exalted, O LORD, in Your strength;

We will  sing and praise Your power.
