“they seized him” (Mark 14:51).

In what does Joseph of Arimathea , a respected member of the council, later wrap the body of Jesus after taking Him down from the cross and laying His body in a tomb?
“And Joseph bought a linen shroud, and taking him down, wrapped him in the linen shroud and laid him in a tomb that had been cut out of the rock. And he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb” (Mark 15:46).

In Revelation 3:1-6, what does Jesus tell the angel of the church in Sardis to write?
“‘The words of him who has the seven spirits of God and the seven stars.

“ ‘I know your works. You have the reputation  of being alive, but you are dead. 2 Wake up, and strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your works complete in the sight of my God. 3  Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent. If you will not wake up, I will come  like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come against you. 4 Yet you have still a few names in Sardis, people who have not  soiled their garments, and they will walk with me  in white, for they are  worthy. 5  The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never  blot his name out of  the book of life.  I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels. 6  He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’”

In Revelation 19:13, in what is The Word of God clothed?
“He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God” (Revelation 19:13).

Abba Father,
Your grace is extravagant and abounding, capturing and transforming sinners from naked slaves to heirs of God through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. Clothed in Christ, the redeemed are forgiven of all sin. Redeemed not with silver or gold, but by the precious, powerful blood of Your Son, You reconciled us to Yourself in peace and love. You clothed us in Christ, covering our nakedness with His perfect righteousness and glory. Clothed in Christ, You cleansed us of all iniquity, removed our sin, and set us free to follow Jesus. Clothed in Christ, we are no longer slaves of sin but blessed servants of righteousness. Clothed in Christ, we are given the right to be called Your children, co-heirs with Christ, and invited to boldly approach Your throne of majesty and glory with confidence. Clothed in Christ, we rejoice in the assurance that You have reconciled us to Yourself in everlasting peace and love by Your grace through faith alone in Jesus. Clothed in Christ, we are known by You and are clothed with power from on high to make You and Jesus known . Clothed in Christ, we are a new creation, created in Christ Jesus to do the good work that You prepared us in advance to do. Clothed in Christ, we rejoice in the knowledge and wisdom of You and of Jesus. Clothed in Christ, we wait wisely and alertly in the blessed hope of Jesus’ appearing. Clothed in Christ, we rejoice in grace upon grace. Clothed in Christ, we call to You, Abba Father, with confidence that You hear and heed our cries. Glory and thanks to You for the glorious riches that are in Christ Jesus our Lord. Blessed and powerful is Your beautiful Name.
In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.

All that You have spoken will be fully realized, according to Your good will and divine purpose. Your Word goes out and accomplishes all that You have purposed, and it never goes out and returns void. Thank You for the revelation contained in Your Word and the preservation of Your Word through the ages, that we may grow in our wisdom and knowledge of You and of Jesus, and rejoice always in the Lord as You fulfill Your Word in our lives and in the world. Glory and praise to You and to Jesus our Lord for Your eternal, unthwartable power to bring every good work that You have begun to completion. May Your servants  of righteousness draw the sword of the Spirit, which is Your Word, and wield it with grace and honor, leading many to salvation by the sharing of the Gospel, which is Your power for the salvation of all who believe, to the Jew first and also the Gentile. Glory to You for the wisdom and power of the cross, which is the fragrance of life to those who are being saved. Mark 14:45 After coming, Judas immediately went to Him, saying, “Rabbi!” and kissed Him.

Who comes and immediately goes up to Jesus?
Judas (14:45)

How does Judas address Jesus?
“Rabbi!”

[“Title of respect, meaning ‘my great one,’ or ‘my superior one,’ used in Jesus’ day for Jewish religious teachers. According to Matthew 23:7, ‘rabbi’ was evidently used as a common title of address for the Jewish scribes and Pharisees; however, in the NT it is most commonly used as a title of respectful address when others were speaking to Jesus. It was used by Nathanael (Jn 1:49), by Peter and Andrew (Jn 1:38), by Nicodemus (Jn 3:2), by the disciples as a group (Jn 9:2; 11:8), and by a crowd generally (Jn 6:25). Mary Magdalene (Mk 10:51) and blind Bartimaeus (Jn 20:16) both use the longer form, ‘rabboni,’ to address Jesus directly, thus indicating even more profound respect than the use of the mere title, ‘rabbi.’ By the time of the writing of John’s Gospel, the title ‘rabbi’ meant ‘teacher’; and this John says explicitly in 1:38 and implicitly in 3:2).
Jesus condemns the scribes and the Pharisees for their evident pride displayed in their love of being greeted in the marketplaces and their insistence on having men call them ‘rabbi’ (Mt 23:7, 8). Jesus prohibited the use of the title for his own disciples, saying, ‘You are not to be called Rabbi.’ However, Jesus’ prohibition was more against seeking to be called this and insisting on it than the mere legitimate possession of the title itself. In fact, several people did use the title of Jesus in a reverent way and they were not in any way rebuked” (Baker Encyclopedia of the Bible, V 2, p. 1815).]

What does Jesus say concerning being called Rabbi in Matthew 23:1-12
Matt. 23:1    Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples,  2 saying: “The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the chair of Moses; 3 therefore all that they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds; for they say things and do not do them. 4 “ They tie up heavy burdens and lay them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves are unwilling to move them with so much as a finger. 5 “But they do all their deeds to be noticed by men; for they  broaden their  phylacteries and lengthen  the tassels of their garments. 6 “They love the place of honor at banquets and the chief seats in the synagogues, 7 and respectful greetings in the market places, and being called Rabbi by men. 8 “But do not be called Rabbi; for One is your Teacher, and you are all brothers. 9 “Do not call anyone on earth your father; for  One is your Father, He who is in heaven. 10 “Do not be called leaders; for One is your Leader, that is, Christ. 11 “ But the greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 “ Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted.

What had Judas given as a signal to the crowd with swords and clubs?
“Now he who was betraying Him had given them a signal, saying, ‘Whomever I kiss, He is the one; seize Him and lead Him away under guard’” (14:44).

What does Judas do after coming up to Jesus and saying, “Rabbi!”?
“he kissed Him” (14:45).

Father,
You reign from on high in Your holy temple, exalted and enthroned in majesty and glory above the earth. You observe outward actions while discerning perfectly the inward motives of the heart. You are the God Who knows. Nothing can be hidden from Your penetrating gaze. No one can escape the scope of Your sovereign jurisdiction. Glory to You, Mighty King, and glory to Jesus, Son of God, Savior, King, Lord over all.
In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.

What is the signal?
“Whomever I kiss” (14:44).

“He is the one” (14:44).

What two orders does the betrayer give?

Κρατἠσατε αὐτὸν
2P Aorist Active Imperative of κρατέω
“to take control of someone or something, seize control” (BDAG, 564)

2.  “lead Him away under guard” (14:44).
ἀπάγετε ἀσφαλῶς
2P Present Active Imperative of ἀπάγω
“to conduct a person from one point to another in a legal process…to lead away a prisoner or condemned man…lead away to execution” (BDAG, 95).

Holy Father,
You are just, and yet rich in mercy and abounding in grace. You so loved the world that You gave Your only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. Just as You promised, You sent a Deliverer to crush the head of the ancient serpent. You sent Your One and Only Son to redeem Your people from sin and death. Profoundly astounding, You allowed Your Son Who knew no sin to become sin, to be condemned and led away to death because we had sinned and incurred the penalty of death and were justly condemned by the Law, which You upheld and Jesus fulfilled. Jesus was led away as a condemned criminal because we were condemned criminals. Jesus, the Son of God and Son of Man, King of kings and Lord of lords, surrendered to Your will and submitted Himself to the disgrace of a condemned criminal, to bear Your just wrath against the sin that we ourselves committed.

You sent Your Son to die in our place. And by His wounds, we are healed. Whomever the Son sets free is free indeed. All who call on His Name will be saved. Glory to You through Jesus for so great a salvation. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.

The plural is used in the NT and in Josephus…to denote members of the Sanhedrin who belonged to highpriestly families: ruling high priests, those who had been deposed, and adult male members of the most prominent priestly families” (BDAG, 139)

LORD God Almighty, Sovereign Potentate,
You are King of all the nations. By Your all-powerful righteous hand, You exalt rulers and You depose them. Your arm is never too short to save, nor to cast down. And You have exalted Your Son, Jesus the Messiah, to the highest place of honor at Your right hand. The kingdom of Jesus will never cease. And nothing can thwart Your work of bringing redemption and restoration to Your people through the Person and work of Jesus. Glory and thanks to You through the Lord Jesus for Your power to cause all things to work together for good to those who love You, to those who are called according to Your purpose. You cause even the evil that men do to accomplish Your good, eternal purposes. Glory to Your Name. Blessed is He Who comes in the Name of the Lord. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.

Mark 14:42 “Get up, let us be going; behold, the one who betrays Me is at hand!”

Who is at hand?
“the one who betrays Me” (14:42)
ὁ παραδιδούς (Masculine Nominative Singular Present Active Participle)

While Jesus was previously eating the Passover with the twelve disciples in the Upper Room, what had He foretold about the one to betray Him?

“As they were reclining at the table and eating, Jesus said, ‘Truly I say to you that one of you will betray Me—one who is eating with Me” (14:18).

“He said to them, ‘It is one of the twelve, one who dips with Me in the bowl'” (14:20).

“And they were very sorrowful and began to say to him one after another, ‘Is it I, Lord?’” He answered, ‘He who has dipped his hand in the dish with me will betray me” (Matthew 26: 22-23).

Who would be the one of the twelve to betray Jesus?
“Judas, who would betray him, answered, ‘Is it I, Rabbi?’ He said to him, ‘You have said so’” (Matthew 26:25).

What had Jesus said about the consequence of betrayal for that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed?
“For the Son of Man is to go just as it is written of Him; but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born” (14:21).

Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come (Rev 4:8b). Worthy are You, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and by Your will they existed and were created (Rev 4:11).

Glory to You, El Elyon, our Creator King. You are the One True God of the Bible, and You are true. Your Word is true. All that You plan, You do. And all that You do is just and right. And I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in us will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ (Phil 1:6). Blessed is He Who comes in the Name of the LORD. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.

Mark 14:41 And he came the third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? It is enough; the hour has come. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

How many times in Gethsemane does Jesus leave Peter, James, and John to pray and come back to find them sleeping?
Three times (14:41)

What does Jesus ask them when He comes the third time?
“Are you still sleeping (καθεύδετε) and taking your rest (ἀναπαύεσθε)?” (14:41a)

καθεύδω – To cease being awake, to sleep (BDAG, 490)
ἀναπαύω – To take one’s rest, rest, of person’s who are drowsy {BDAG, 69)

ἀπέχω – To meet the need of the moment, to suffice, be enough
ὤρα – 1. An undefined period of time in a day, time of day
            2.  A period of time as division of a day, hour

How does Jesus describe the hour that has come?
“…The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners” (Mark 14:41c).

How had Jesus previously warned His disciples about this hour in Jerusalem?
“They went on from there and passed through Galilee. And he did not want anyone to know, for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, ‘The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he is killed, after three days he will rise.’ But they did not understand the saying and were afraid to ask him” (Mark 9:30-32).

“And they were on the road going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them. And they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. And taking the twelve again, he began to tell them what was to happen to him, saying, ‘See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the Gentiles. And they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And after three days he will rise” (Mark 10:32-34).

In the messianic prediction recorded in Daniel 7:13-14, how is the Messiah described?
“I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.”

Father,
You are the One True God who reveals prophecy and fulfills it in Your perfect time, according to Your eternal plan, as it was recorded through Your servants in Your Word, revealing Your divine power and perfect knowledge. You know the beginning and the end. The nations and times are in Your hands, instruments to accomplish Your eternal, unthwartable purposes. Glory to You and to Jesus the Messiah, Son of God and Son of Man. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
