How many times in
Gethsemane does Jesus leave Peter, James, and John to pray and come back to
find them sleeping?
Three times (14:41)
What does Jesus ask
them when He comes the third time?
“Are you still sleeping (καθεύδετε) and taking your rest (ἀναπαύεσθε)?”
(14:41a)
καθεύδω – To cease
being awake, to sleep (BDAG, 490)
ἀναπαύω – To take
one’s rest, rest, of person’s who are drowsy {BDAG, 69)
How does Jesus respond after His question?

How does Jesus describe the hour that has
come?
“…The Son of Man is
betrayed into the hands of sinners” (Mark 14:41c).
How had Jesus previously warned His disciples
about this hour in Jerusalem?
“They went on from
there and passed through Galilee. And he did not want anyone to know, for he
was teaching his disciples, saying to them, ‘The Son of Man is going to be
delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he is killed,
after three days he will rise.’ But they did not understand the saying and were
afraid to ask him” (Mark 9:30-32).
“And they were on the
road going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them. And they were
amazed, and those who followed were afraid. And taking the twelve again, he began
to tell them what was to happen to him, saying, ‘See, we are going up to
Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and
the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the
Gentiles. And they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him.
And after three days he will rise” (Mark 10:32-34).
In the messianic prediction recorded in Daniel 7:13-14,
how is the Messiah described?
“I saw in the night
visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of
man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. And to
him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and
languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall
not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.”
