Mark 14:46 They laid (ἐπέβαλον) hands on Him and
seized (ἐκράτησαν) Him.
ἐπέβαλον (3P
Aorist Active Indicative ἐπιβάλλω) “lay on, put on” (BDAG, 367)
ἐκράτησαν (3P
Aorist Active Indicative κρατέω) “to take control of someone or something,
seize, control, of taking into custody arrest, apprehend someone” (BDAG, 564).
What does the crowd lay on Jesus?
Hands (14:46)
What else does the crowd do to Jesus?
Seize Him (14:46)
What had Jesus previously shown His disciples about what
would happen when He went to Jerusalem?
“From that time Jesus began
to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from
the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised up on
the third day” (Matt 16:21).
LORD God Almighty,
Your hand exalts and Your
hand throws down. Though the clenched clay fist of wicked man seeks to thwart
You and Christ, Your Anointed One, You prevail. Glory to You and to Jesus, You
prevailed over sin at the cross and over death at the tomb. Glory to You for Your grace that is greater than our sin. Glory to You for Your love that is greater than our hearts. Glory to You for Your faithfulness that endures the faithlessness and unbelief of Your people. Glory to You for Your hand that upholds. May the hands of the redeemed be uplifted to You and to Jesus in praise, and outstretched in love to one another. May the lips of the redeemed utter worthy words of worship, praying in the Spirit always, without ceasing.
In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
