Revelation 4:8-11 Prelude of Praise

Rev 4:8 And the four living creatures, each one of them having six wings, are full of eyes around and within; and day and night they do not cease to say,
“HOLY, HOLY, HOLY is THE LORD GOD, THE ALMIGHTY, WHO WAS AND WHO IS AND WHO IS TO COME.”
9 And when the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, to Him who lives forever and ever,  10 the twenty-four elders will fall down before Him who sits on the throne, and will worship Him who lives forever and ever, and will cast their crowns before the throne, saying,

11        “Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.”
Describe the four living creatures. How often do they praise? What do they not cease to say? (4:8)
·      Creatures: four, living, six wings each, full of eyes around and within (4:8).
·      Day and night they do not cease (4:8).
·      “HOLY, HOLY, HOLY is THE LORD GOD, THE ALMIGHTY, WHO WAS AND WHO IS AND WHO IS TO COME” (4:8).
o   Related biblical texts:
§ Is. 6:1   In the year of King Uzziah’s death I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple.  2 Seraphim stood above Him, each having six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.  3  And one called out to another and said, “Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD of hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory.”
§  Ezek. 1:5 Within it there were figures resembling four living beings. And this was their appearance: they had human form.  6 Each of them had four faces and four wings.  7 Their legs were straight and their feet were like a calf’s hoof, and they gleamed like burnished bronze.  8 Under their wings on their four sides were human hands. As for the faces and wings of the four of them,  9 their wings touched one another; their faces did not turn when they moved, each went straight forward.  10 As for the form of their faces, each had the face of a man; all four had the face of a lion on the right and the face of a bull on the left, and all four had the face of an eagle.  11 Such were their faces. Their wings were spread out above; each had two touching another being, and two covering their bodies.  12 And each went straight forward; wherever the spirit was about to go, they would go, without turning as they went.  13 In the midst of the living beings there was something that looked like burning coals of fire, like torches darting back and forth among the living beings. The fire was bright, and lightning was flashing from the fire.  14 And the living beings ran to and fro like bolts of lightning.

To whom do the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks? (4:9) How long does He live? (4:9)
·      To Him who sits on the throne, to Him who lives forever and ever (4:9).
·      Forever and ever (4:9).

How will the twenty-four elders respond when the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, to Him who lives forever and ever? (4:9-10)
The 24 elders will fall down before Him who sits on the throne, and will worship Him who lives forever and ever, and will cast their crowns before the throne (4:10).

What do the twenty-four elders say when they worship Him who sits on the throne? (4:11)
“Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created” (4:11).

What is their Lord and their God worthy to receive? Why is He worthy to receive glory, honor, and power? Why do all things exist and why were they created? (4:11)
·      Worthy to receive glory and honor and power (4:11).
·      Worthy because of His will they existed and were created” (4:11).
·      Because of God’s will (4:11).

What do you learn about God in  Rev 4:8-11?
The holy, holy, holy LORD God, the Almighty, Who lives forever, Who was and Who is and Who is to come, is worthy to receive glory and honor and power, because He created all things, and because of His will they existed and were created.

How could this truth transform your life?
Inspires worship of the LORD God, the Almighty, the Sovereign Creator, Who is worthy.

Holy, Holy, Holy,
Forever and ever,
LORD God, the Almighty, Sovereign Creator,
Majestic King, enthroned on high.
Worthy are You to receive glory, honor, and praise,
for You created all things,
and by Your will, all things exist and were created.
You created, and You sustain creation.
You give life, and You uphold the living.
Utterly dependent,
Delighting in You,
Declaring Your praise,
Your children join the heavenly throng
in proclaiming Your greatness and glory.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
