Mark 15:29-30 Those passing by were hurling abuse at Him, wagging their heads, and saying, “Ha! You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself, and come down from the cross!”


 What are those passing by Jesus on the cross doing?

“Those passing by were hurling abuse at Him, wagging their heads” (Mark 15:29).
·      What does David prophesy in Psalm 22:7?
“All who see me mock me; they make mouths at me; they wag their heads” (Psalm 22:7).
·      What does David prophesy in Psalm 109:25?
“I am an object of scorn to my accusers; when they see me, they wag their heads” (Psalm 109:25).

What are those passing by saying?

“…Ha! You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself, and come down from the cross!" (Mark 15:29-30).
·      What had the false witnesses who gave false testimony against Jesus said to the Council?
o  Some stood up and began to give false testimony against Him, saying, ‘We heard Him say, “I will destroy this temple made with hands, and in three days I will build another made without hands”’” (Mark 14:57-58).

So when He was raised from the dead, His disciples remembered that He said this; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had spoken” (John 2:19-22).

“…the temple…” (Mark 15:29).
·      Of what temple had Jesus spoken about that would be raised from the dead in three days?
…the temple of His body” (John 2:21).

What do they tell Jesus to do?

“save Yourself, and come down from the cross!” (Mark 15:30).

·      ἀπὸ τοῦ σταυροῦ (apo tou staurou) (“from the cross”)
