Revelation 10:1-7 Transition from Trumpets to Bowls: The Strong Angel and Sealing of the Message of the Seven Peals of Thunder

Rev. 10:1   I saw another strong angel coming down out of heaven, clothed with a cloud; and the rainbow was upon his head, and his face was like the sun, and his feet like pillars of fire;  2 and he had in his hand a little book which was open. He placed his right foot on the sea and his left on the land;  3 and he cried out with a loud voice, as when a lion roars; and when he had cried out, the seven peals of thunder uttered their voices.  4 When the seven peals of thunder had spoken, I was about to write; and I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Seal up the things which the seven peals of thunder have spoken and do not write them.”  5 Then the angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land lifted up his right hand to heaven,  6 and swore by Him who lives forever and ever, WHO CREATED HEAVEN AND THE THINGS IN IT, AND THE EARTH AND THE THINGS IN IT, AND THE SEA AND THE THINGS IN IT, that there will be delay no longer,  7 but in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he is about to sound, then the mystery of God is finished, as He preached to His servants the prophets.

Prayer and Bible Expo
Describe the appearance of the other angel that John sees. (10:1-2)
·      Strong.
·      Clothed with a cloud.
·      The rainbow was upon his head.
·      His face was like the sun.
·      His feet like pillars of fire.

From where does he come? (10:1)
Comes down out of heaven.

What is in his hand?  (10:2)
A little book which was open.
  •        I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a book written inside and on the back, sealed up with seven seals. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, ‘Who is worthy to open the book and to break its seals?’” (Rev 5:1-2).

Where does he place his feet? (10:2)
He placed his right foot on the sea and his left on the land.

What does the angel do? (10:3)
“and he cried out with a loud voice, as when a lion roars . . .” (10:3).
  •        “For thus says the LORD to me,‘As the lion or the young lion growls over his prey, Against which a band of shepherds is called out,And he will not be terrified at their voice nor disturbed at their noise,So will the LORD of hosts come down to wage war on Mount Zion and on its hill’” (Isa 31:4).

Who utters their voices after him? (10:3)
the seven peals of thunder

What is John’s first response after the seven peals of thunder had spoken? (10:4)
John was about to write.

What does the voice from heaven command John to seal up and not write? (10:4)
“Seal up the things which the seven peals of thunder have spoken and do not write them.”

By whom does the angel standing on the sea and on the land swear? (10:5-6)
“. . . by Him who lives forever and ever; WHO CREATED HEAVEN AND THE THINGS IN IT, AND THE EARTH AND THE THINGS IN IT, AND THE SEA AND THE THINGS IN IT, AND THE EARTH AND THE THINGS IN IT, AND THE SEA AND THE THINGS IN IT . . .” (10:6).

What does the angel say will be finished in the days of the voice of the seventh angel? (10:7)
“. . . then the mystery of God is finished . . .” (10:7).

To whom had He preached that mystery of God would be finished? (10:7)
To His servants the prophets.

What impresses you about Rev 10:1-7?
The description of the angel, perhaps Michael the archangel, communicates great glory, power, and authority, indicated by his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land.

What do you learn about God from Rev 10:1-7?
God is the Revealer of mysteries, and He reveals His plans through His servants the prophets. Throughout the ages, God watches over to fulfill His Word, just as it is written.

How could this truth transform your life?
Search God’s Word and believe in His Son, Jesus, the Messiah Whom Scripture foretold and in Whom the prophecies and promises of God find their ultimate satisfaction.

Father,
God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, You have glorified Your servant Jesus, the Holy and Righteous One, Who was delivered and disowned. You announced beforehand by the mouth of all the prophets, that Your Christ would suffer, just as You have fulfilled. May many repent and return, so that their sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from You, and that You may send Jesus, the Christ appointed for us, whom heaven must receive until the period of restoration of all things about which You spoke by the mouth of Your holy prophets from ancient time.

Jesus Himself, Who is risen, foretold His disciples that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. It was necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory. All things which are written about Jesus in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled. May minds be opened to understand the Scriptures.

May the gospel be made known which Paul preached, which we also received, in which we also stand, by which also we are saved, if we hold fast the word which Paul preached, unless believed in vain. For what Paul delivered is of first importance, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.

In Your grace we stand. In the hope of Your glory, we exult. Now may You, the God of hope, fill us with all joy and peace in believing, so that we will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
