Isaiah 53:11 (8^th century BC)

Righteous One צַדִּ֛יק (tzaddīq) My Servant עַבְדִּ֖י (⁽avdiy)

“As a result of the  anguish of His soul, 

He will see it and be satisfied; 

by His knowledge 

the Righteous One, My Servant, 

will justify the many, 

as He will  bear their iniquities” 

(Isa. 53:11).

מֵעֲמַ֤ל נַפְשׁוֹ֙ יִרְאֶ֣ה יִשְׂבָּ֔ע בְּדַעְתּ֗וֹ יַצְדִּ֥יק צַדִּ֛יק עַבְדִּ֖י לָֽרַבִּ֑ים וַעֲוֹנֹתָ֖ם ה֥וּא יִסְבֹּֽל׃

“In the LORD all the offspring of Israel will be justified and will glory” (Isa. 45:25). 

“But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed. All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; but the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him” (Isa. 53:5-6).

“But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;  whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed; for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. Where then is boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith. For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law. Or is God the God of Jews only? Is He not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, since indeed God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith is one. Do we then nullify the Law through faith? May it never be! On the contrary, we establish the Law” (Rom. 3:21-31).

“So then as through one transgression there resulted condemnation to all men, even so through one act of righteousness there resulted justification of life to all men.  For as through the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be made righteous”  (Rom. 5:18-19).

(Isa. 45:25 (BHS בַּיהוָ֛ה יִצְדְּק֥וּ וְיִֽתְהַלְל֖וּ כָּל־זֶ֥רַע יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

Isa. 53:5-6 וְהוּא֙ מְחֹלָ֣ל מִפְּשָׁעֵ֔נוּ מְדֻכָּ֖א מֵעֲוֹנֹתֵ֑ינוּ מוּסַ֤ר שְׁלוֹמֵ֙נוּ֙ עָלָ֔יו וּבַחֲבֻרָת֖וֹ נִרְפָּא־לָֽנוּ׃ 6 כֻּלָּ֙נוּ֙ כַּצֹּ֣אן תָּעִ֔ינוּ אִ֥ישׁ לְדַרְכּ֖וֹ פָּנִ֑ינוּ וַֽיהוָה֙ הִפְגִּ֣יעַ בּ֔וֹ אֵ֖ת עֲוֹ֥ן כֻּלָּֽנוּ׃

(Rom. 3:21-31 (MHNT‏ אַךְ כָּעֵת נִגְלְתָה צִדְקַת הָאֱלֹהִים בְּלִי תּוֹרָה, צְדָקָה שֶׁהַתּוֹרָה וְהַנְּבִיאִים מְעִידִים עָלֶיהָ.  ‎22‏ וְהִיא צְדָקָה שֶׁל הָאֱלֹהִים, בְּאֶמְצָעוּת אֱמוּנַת יֵשׁוּעַ הַמָּשִׁיחַ, אֶל כָּל וְעַל כָּל הַמַּאֲמִינִים; שֶׁהֲרֵי אֵין הֶבְדֵּל,  ‎23‏ כִּי הַכֹּל חָטְאוּ וּמְחֻסְּרֵי כְּבוֹד אֱלֹהִים הֵמָּה.  ‎24‏ אַךְ הֵם מֻצְדָּקִים בְּחַסְדּוֹ, בְּחִנָּם, הוֹדוֹת לַפְּדוּת שֶׁבַּמָּשִׁיחַ יֵשׁוּעַ,  ‎25‏ אֲשֶׁר הָאֱלֹהִים שָׂם אוֹתוֹ לְכַפָּרָה בְּדָמוֹ, כַּפָּרָה עַל־יְסוֹד אֱמוּנָה. כָּל זֶה כְּדֵי לְהַרְאוֹת אֶת הַצְּדָקָה שֶׁל אֱלֹהִים בְּכָךְ שֶׁבְּאֹרֶךְ רוּחוֹ פָּסַח עַל חֲטָאֵי הֶעָבָר,  ‎26‏ וּלְהַרְאוֹת אֶת צִדְקָתוֹ בַּזְּמַן הַזֶּה: שֶׁהוּא צַדִּיק וּמַצְדִּיק אֶת בֶּן אֱמוּנַת יֵשׁוּעַ. 

‎27‏ אִם כֵּן, הֲיֵשׁ מָקוֹם לְגַאֲוָה? לֹא, אֵין לָהּ מָקוֹם. הוֹדוֹת לְאֵיזוֹ תּוֹרָה? שֶׁל הַמַּעֲשִׂים? לֹא, הוֹדוֹת לְתוֹרָה שֶׁל אֱמוּנָה.  ‎28‏ וְאָמְנָם אָנוּ קוֹבְעִים שֶׁהָאָדָם מֻצְדָּק עַל־יְדֵי אֱמוּנָה לְלֹא תְּלוּת בְּמַעֲשֵׂי הַתּוֹרָה.  ‎29‏ אוֹ שֶׁמָּא הוּא אֱלֹהֵי הַיְּהוּדִים בִּלְבַד? הַאֵין הוּא גַּם אֱלֹהֵי הַגּוֹיִם? כֵּן, גַּם אֱלֹהֵי הַגּוֹיִם הוּא,  ‎30‏ שֶׁכֵּן אֱלֹהִים אֶחָד הוּא הַמַּצְדִּיק אֶת הַנִּמּוֹלִים עַל־יְסוֹד אֱמוּנָה, וְאֶת הָעֲרֵלִים עַל־יְדֵי הָאֱמוּנָה.  ‎31‏ הַאִם אָנוּ מְבַטְּלִים אֵפוֹא אֶת הַתּוֹרָה עַל־יְדֵי הָאֱמוּנָה? חַס וְחָלִילָה! אַדְּרַבָּא, אָנוּ נוֹתְנִים תֹּקֶף לַתּוֹרָה. 

Rom. 5:18-19 וּבְכֵן, כְּשֵׁם שֶׁעֲבֵרָה אַחַת הִיא הַרְשָׁעָה לְכָל בְּנֵי אָדָם, כֵּן גַּם מַעֲשֵׂה צְדָקָה אֶחָד הוּא זִכּוּי שֶׁל חַיִּים לְכָל בְּנֵי אָדָם; 19 כִּי כְּשֵׁם שֶׁבִּגְלַל אִי־צִיּוּתוֹ שֶׁל אָדָם אֶחָד נַעֲשׂוּ הָרַבִּים לְחוֹטְאִים, כֵּן גַּם בִּגְלַל צִיּוּתוֹ שֶׁל הָאֶחָד יֵעָשׂוּ הָרַבִּים לְצַדִּיקִים.
